The Home Ministry has issued a show cause notice to Rujira Naroola, wife of Trinamool Congress (TMC)<\/a> MP Abhishek Banerjee and nephew of the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee , for alleged discrepancies in her PAN application. Abhishek is the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.<\/p>\n

According to the ministry, Rujira applied for PAN holding OCI card without mentioning that she is a Thai national. She has been asked to reply within 15 days otherwise, her OCI card might get cancelled.<\/p>\n

The notice comes barely days after a controversy involving Banerjee\u2019s wife at the Kolkatta airport where she is said to have intimdated customs officials who stopped her for carryiong excess gold than is permissible.<\/p>\n

According to the the home ministry notice, \u201cMs\u00a0Rujira Naroola, a Thai national, had been issued PIO card\u00a0No P234979 by Indian Embassy\u00a0in Bangkok on 8 January, 2010\u00a0mentioning Mr Niphon\u00a0Naroola as father in the card.\u00a0\u00a0She applied for conversion of\u00a0her PIO card into OCI (overseas citizenship of India) card\u00a0in the office of FRRO, Kolkata\u00a0and issued the OCI card No.\u00a0A2B79448 on 8 November,\u00a02017. One of the supporting\u00a0documents submitted by Ms\u00a0Rujira Naroola to get her PIO\u00a0card converted into OCI card\u00a0was the certificate of her marriage with Abhishek Banerjee\u00a0which was issued on 13 February, 2013 wherein she mentioned Mr Gursharan Singh\u00a0Ahujae as her father.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe central government\u00a0has been further informed that\u00a0on 14 November, 2019 Ms\u00a0Rujira Naroola applied for\u00a0PAN card by filing Form 49A\u00a0without intimating her real status as a Thai national holding OCI card and mentioning\u00a0Mr Gursharan Singh Ahuja as\u00a0her father. She was actually\u00a0required to fill Form 49AA to\u00a0get a PAN by declaring herself\u00a0as a foreigner holding an OCI card. On the basis of information given in her application Form 49A, she has\u00a0obtained the PAN card<\/a> bearing No. AJNPN2286R under the\u00a0name Ms Rujira Naroola in the\u00a0capacity of an Indian citizen,\u201d the notice further\u00a0claimed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Central Government\u00a0has examined the matter and\u00a0noticed the discrepancies\u00a0mentioned above and is prima\u00a0facie of the opinion that registration of Ms Rujira Naroola\u00a0as an OCI card holder is liable\u00a0for cancellation in the interest of general public Sub\u00a0Clauses (a) & (e) of Section 7D\u00a0of the Citizenship Act, 1955,\u201d\u00a0according to the MHA notice.<\/p>\n

\u201cMs Rujira Naroola, an\u00a0OCI Cardholder, is hereby\u00a0called upon to show cause as to why she has made false representation and concealed material facts while submitting documents before the\u00a0Competent Authorities to get\u00a0her OCI and PAN cards,\u201d it\u00a0observed.<\/p>\n
