In the case regarding suicide of farmers, the Supreme Court cut out the fluff and concentrated on some basics.

In its order after hearing on May 3, the bench of Justices Dipak Misra, AM Khanwilkar and M Shantanagoudar said: “Heard Mr Shankarnarayanan the amicus, apart from narrating the facts has given certain short term and long term suggestions. We have focused on two aspects.

“Establishment of mandis within acceptable radius and the procurement centres to be opened. The MSP for 26 crops that have been provided needs to be made aware to the farmers. Mr Narasimha has been given 3 days time to take directions and provide us the suggestions as to how anything else can be thought of exclusive to the effort that the government has already taken.”
