Supreme Court stays Jahangirpuri demolitions, orders status quo

The Supreme Court today has ordered a status quo by putting stop to the demolition drive by NDMC in Northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri which witnessed violence on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.

The plea was moved by Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind against employing bulldozers to raze down the properties of people who are suspected of  involvement in Jahangirpuri Clash.

Many Senior advocates are a part of this matter including Kapil Sibal, PV Surendranath, Dushyant Dave, and Prashant Bhushan

The Advocate Dushyant Dave clearly mentioned that the demolition drive in riot-hit Jahangirpuri is completely illegal as no notice was served

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal represented the case of Jamiat before the court

Sibal: this is regarding all India ramification milords

The CJI ordered status quo. “Let the matter be taken up tomorrow along with the other matter,”

The bench was informed that the demolition has begun in Jahangirpuri at 9 am today

Advocate Dave mentioned the matter again before the CJI, stating that despite the order the demolition drive was not put an end. Advocate Dave had asked for notices to be issued to NDMC commissioner and commissioner of Police.

CJI has asked the registrar to communicate the stay order to North MCD mayor, Commissioner and Police Commissioner.The court staff took down the contact numbers of the officers from Advocate Dave
