Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani who is seeking re-election from the Rajkot (West) constituency is trailing behind Congress rival Indranil Rajyaguru. The constituency is dominated by Patidars who have been protesting against the BJP in the state. Rajyaguru, the richest candidate in the fray in Gujarat, was elected from the Rajkot (East) constituency in the 2012 state polls. Political observers had predicted a tough fight on this seat with many speculating a defeat for Rupani.
