The bail given to Karti Chidambaram in the INX Media case has been challenged by the CBI in the top court today. CBI said in the plea that it was “impermissible” for the high court to hear the bail plea when a similar plea was pending before the trial court.

The investigating agency further said that the court wrongly facilitated a detailed examination of evidence on merits while granting bail— which deeply undermined its case.

Karti Chidambaram is facing charges for facilitating a government clearance for foreign investment for INX Media by using the influence of his father, P Chidambaram who was serving as Union Finance Minister in UPA-2. CBI had arrested Karti in February.
