The Supreme Court on Tuesday modified its Jan 11 order whereby it constituted three-member SIT to probe into 186 cases pertaining to 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

On Tuesday, it accepted Centre’s suggestion that two-member SIT will continue probe into cases.

The Centre had cited the recusal of one of the SIT members, IPS officer Rajdeep Singh due to personal reasons.

Centre had approached the Supreme Court yesterday saying they had no objection to allow remaining two member-team of SIT consisting of former Delhi High Court judge Justice S N Dhingra and serving IPS officer Abhishek Dular to continue the probe. No order was passed yesterday and it was posted for today.

On January 11, the apex court had constituted a three-member SIT headed by Justice Dhingra to supervise probe into the 186 cases which were closed by an earlier SIT.

The apex court had constituted a new SIT on a plea by Gurlad Singh Kahlon, a member of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.

Kahlon had asserted that the previous SIT which was set up in 2015 had miserably failed in conducting the probe.
