A special CBI court has issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against diamond merchant Mehul Choksi, a key accused in PNB fraud case after taking cognizance of the second chargesheet.

The second chargesheet names 16 institutions and individuals, including top PNB officials. Among them who have been named are former PNB managing director and CEO Usha Ananthasubramanian, managing director of Gitanjali group Mehul Choksi, two serving executive directors of PNB, Sanjiv Sharan and Brahmaji Rao and and PNB deputy manager Gokulnath Shetty.

Ananthasubramanian along with Sharan and Rao have been charged under section 409 (criminal breach of trust) and section 420 (cheating) of the IPC and section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act for causing fraudulent losses to the bank and criminal breach of trust of the public.

A report quoting the CBI sources said that the issuance of NBW would enable the CBI to reach out to the Interpol for initiating a Red Corner Notice against Choksi as well as Nirav Modi, his brother Nishal and an executive of the Nirav Modi Group, Subhash Parab.
