SC to CBSE: Compensate NEET candidates for losing 30 minutes due to the invigilator’s fault

The top court on Thursday (June 21) dismissed the plea by the CBSE challenging the Bombay High Court’s order to give additional proportionate marks to NEET-UG candidates for 30 minutes loss of time suffered by them due to invigilator’s fault.

Appearing for the CBSE, Additional Solicitor General Maninder Singh said that he could understand the plight of the students and they should have been given full three hours. However, during the inquiry different statements were given by the students with some saying that 20 minutes were lost.

“What is the age of the students? They have just passed their schools. Even 20 minutes loss is a lot in competitive examinations,” the vacation bench of Justices S Abdul Nazeer and Indu Malhotra said.

To which, Singh said that he needed 10 days time to adhere to the high court’s direction, which the bench permitted.
