Former JNU student Sharjeel Imam, who has been charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for allegedly giving inflammatory speeches at Aligarh Muslim University and Delhi’s Jamia area, has filed a petition in Delhi High Court.

The Allahabad High Court has directed the release of Kanpur-based Rotomac Global Company owner Rahul Kothari on interim bail.

The court allowed interim bail to the petitioner for 90 days upon furnishing a personal bond of Rs 35,000 with surety in like amount.

Justice IP Mukerji said: We are almost under full lockdown. This probe started in 2017. They were not arrested then and probe was completed without arresting them. Why do you think they need to be arrested now and prevented from discharging their public duties?”

The Supreme Court today has granted interim bail to a man for 3 months who was convicted under Section 304B IPC (Dowry death), beaten his wife to death for bringing insufficient dowry.

Tejpal was granted interim bail on May 19, 2014 to attend the cremation of his mother and since then, had been out of jail. In July 2014, Tejpal was granted bail.

Further it had noted that the rationale given aforesaid also has no bearing, for example “he is not denying to commit crime again, his socio economic status not being appropriate, prisoners being criminal in nature because of the existence of a dispute”!

The Delhi High Court has directed 3499 under trial prisoners, who were granted interim bail under various criteria amidst the outbreak of Covid-19, to surrender upon the expiry of that period.

The duo was arrested along with Faruqui on January 2 for making objectionable comments against Home minister Amit Shah and hindu deities.
