Yesterday, Congress ruled Jharkhand became the fifth state to withdraw the ‘general consent’ to the CBI. Jharkhand followed two other states i.e. Kerala and Maharashtra which recently took the decision of not allowing the investigation agency to probe cases in their respective states.
After Maharashtra withdrew the general consent to the CBI to probe cases in the state on October 21, the Kerala Government has followed the suit and has become yet another state to withdraw the general consent to the probe agency.
The Kerala High Court has rejected the CBI’s plea to vacate the interim stay on the probe into the alleged Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) violations in the state government’s LIFE Mission project.
The Kerala High Court has stayed till October 23 the arrest of senior bureaucrat M. Sivasankar by the Customs department in the gold smuggling case. It will consider his anticipatory bail applications in cases registered by the Customs department as well as those by the Enforcement Directorate.
