A single-judge bench of Calcutta High Court while hearing a petition filed by Soumitra Kanti Dey directed real estate group Emaar India Limited to pay a penalty of Rs 40 crore and plant 100 trees for illegally cutting down 62 trees.

The Calcutta High Court on Monday granted permission to the petitioner to make a proper application on filtered water connection and directed the authorities to take action on the basis of that application.

The petition stated that the property at which the minors are exploited belongs to Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Corporation doesn’t have the updated property records
