A Madras High Court judge is seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against actor Suryia for his remarks at Chief Justice A P Sahi of the court.

The Supreme Court on Monday extended the term of Justice AIS Cheema, judicial member of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal, by three months. Justice Cheema was scheduled to demit office on September 10.

Vedanta has filed a plea in the Supreme Court challenging the Madras High Court order which dismissed its plea to reopen the Sterlite Copper’s smelter unit at Thoothukudi.

A bench of Justices N. Kirubakaran and V.M. Velumani made these observations while hearing a plea seeking directions to call for the records relating to the detention order passed by the district magistrate under the Puducherry Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act.
