The Allahabad High Court has recently issued notice and sought counter-affidavit from the Uttar Pradesh Government on a plea filed against the contentious statements of Waseem Rizvi, who is now known as Jitendra Narayan Singh Tyagi after his conversion, at a Dharam Sansad in Haridwar. He was the former chairman of the Shia Waqf Board.
The bench of Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Piyush Agarwal sought response from Waseem Rizvi as well as from the state government regarding the disputed religious statements made by Rizvi.
On December 17-19, Rizvi, along with others, delivered hate speech against Muslims at a religious assembly in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. The Uttarakhand Police had registered a case against Jitendra Narayan Singh Tyagi (formerly known as Waseem Rizvi) following the incident.
Mohammad Yusuf Umar Ansari, the secretary of the Hazrat Khwaja Garib Nawaz Association, has filed the present petition where it is alleged that Waseem Rizvi is making disputable statements against Islam, thus scaring people and creating a suspicious environment by making such statements on public platforms.

The petition in the Allahabad High Court sought direction to prevent Waseem Rizvi from making such religious statements on social media or any other electronic media. The petition further sought deletion of his posts and hate speeches that he has posted on social media or other electronic media and also sought directions in order to stop him from putting questions on Prophet Mohammad or on the Quran itself.
The plea also sought direction to the Uttar Pradesh state government to initiate legal proceedings against Rizvi while stating that his actions amount to anti-national activities. The petition also claims that Rizvi has 27 cases registered on him and he is an anti-social element for society and that he is a person with criminal mind. The matter has been posted on April 13, 2022 for further hearing.
