Tough road ahead for Triple Talaq Bill in the first session of Lok Sabha

The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019 which is scheduled to be tabled in the first session of 17th Lok Sabha has already hit the roadblock with many parties saying that they will oppose the Bill.

The Congress and Janata Dal (U) have already made it clear that they will be opposing the Bill. Congress Rajya Sabha member and spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi has said that a debate was needed on some of its provisions.

Singhvi said that they will oppose it as government didn’t pay heed to some of its suggestions but agreed on some of its points earlier.

NDA ally JD (U) which also opposed the Bill earlier has maintained that it will oppose the Bill this time also.

Senior JD (U) leader and Bihar minister Shayam Razak was quoted as saying that “Triple Talaq was a social concern and it should be addressed by the society at the social level”.
