A lawyer has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Rajasthan High Court seeking contempt of court proceedings against Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot under Article 215 of the Constitution for giving a derogatory statement against the Indian judiciary.
Filed by Advocate Shiv Charan Gupta, the petition alleged that the remarks made by the Congress leader during an interaction with the media on Wednesday amounted to wilfull scandalisation of the judiciary and sought urgent intervention of the High Court.
Interacting with the media on Wednesday, the Rajasthan Chief Minister alleged that there was rampant corruption in the judiciary, even at the level of higher judicial institutions.
Gehlot went on to say that he has even heard about some lawyers writing judgments and taking the same to the court, where they were then pronounced by judges.
Calling the current situation in the judiciary as ‘dangerous’ and ‘worrisome,’ the Rajasthan Chief Minister alleged that corrupt practices were prevalent not only at the lower level, but had reached the upper level of judiciary also. He appealed to the citizens of the country to understand the truth.
He further mentioned Bharatiya Janata Party MLA and former Speaker of the Rajasthan Assembly, Kailash Meghwal calling Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal as ‘corrupt no 1’.
Gehlot said that during the time of Arjun Ram Meghwal, there was a lot of corruption. But the matter was suppressed. These people took a stay from the High Court, he added.
