Calcutta HC Seeks Govt Response On Plea Against Mismanagement Of COVID 19 Crisis

The High Court of Calcutta has sought response from the State Government against allegations of mismanagement of COVID 19 crisis in the State.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan was hearing a petition filed by Kabir Shankar Bose expressing grievances against the mismanagement of COVID 19 crisis by the West Bengal Government.

Senior Counsel Y.J.Dastoor, appearing for the Union Government submitted that the Home Ministry is ready to visit the State, inspect the prevailing conditions and file a status report regarding the same.

However Advocate General Kishore Dutta, appearing for the state government objected to the suggestion made by the Centre. He further submitted that earlier a Team of the Central Government had visited the State to inspect various area and had collected sufficient material, therefore further visit by the central Team was not required. Moreover further inquiry would only be to find fault with the State Government Administration.

Advocate Dastoor  submitted that the team which had earlier visited the State was an inter-ministerial team, however now only the members from Home Ministry will visit the State for inspection.

The bench however clarified that it will not pass any orders directing the Home Ministry to visit the state, however the Ministry may on its own will visit the state for inspection.

The matter has been listed for next hearing on May 26.
