Delhi court grants CBI 1-day remand of businessman Amandeep Singh Dhal in Excise Policy scam case

A local court in Delhi has sent businessman Amandeep Singh Dhal to the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) till Friday regarding the irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi Excise policy 2021-22.

The national agency had arrested Dhal from Tihar Jail on Tuesday in a corruption case related to the liquor scam case.

Dhal, the Director of Brindco Sales, India’s leading importer and distributor of alcoholic beverages, is currently in judicial custody in a case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Earlier, the court had permitted CBI to question Dhal in Tihar Jail.

The national probe agency had sought three-day remand of Dhal, contending that some fresh evidence had surfaced, which necessitated the need to question the accused.

However, the court granted CBI one-day remand of the accused on Wednesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, while hearing the bail petition of the businessman in the ED case, the court had issued notice to the economic intelligence agency.

ED had arrested Dhal on March 1 under relevant provisions of PMLA.
