Delhi High Court defers petition of boxer Arundhati Choudhary seeking trials for 70 kg category ahead of world championship

The Delhi High Court has recently deferred a petition preferred by boxer Arundhati Choudhary, the reigning youth world champion. The petition seeks trials to be held in the 70 kg category for Women’s World Boxing Championship, 2021, for which Lovlina Borgohain was granted direct selection.

On November 17, Choudhary had moved the court seeking impleadment of Lovlina Borgohain, but before the application was taken up for consideration, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) submitted that Women’s World Boxing Championship, 2021 had been postponed and is likely to be held in March 2022. BFI submitted that it would take a decision as to whether a fresh decision for selecting the participants is required.

In the light of the submissions of BFI, a single-judge bench of Justice Rekha Palli listed the matter for further hearing on December 7.
