Delhi court seeks reply from Tihar Jail over allegations of terror accused being beaten up

Rashid Zafar, an undertrial prisoner, told his father on phone that he was beaten up by fellow inmates and forced to say Jai Shri Ram.

A Special NIA Court in Delhi today sought a reply from Tihar Jail authorities in the case of terror accused Rashid Zafar, who is alleged to have been beaten up by inmates and forced to chant Jai Shri Ram.

Special NIA Judge Praveen Singh sought the response by way of filing a report in the petition filed by terror accused Rashid Zafar, who is lodged in Tihar, seeking directions to be passed on the Jail Superintendent related to the matter.

The petition, filed by Advocate M.S. Khan, alleged that Zafar was “beaten up and forced to chant religious slogans of another religion by his inmates”. According to the plea, “this incident was disclosed by the applicant/accused to his father on phone from Tihar Jail”.
