Gauhati High Court disposes of PIL against gram panchayat irregularities

The Gauhati High Court has disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against irregularities committed by Subhas Nagar Gaon Panchayat, Karimganj for not completing developmental works as well as not holding Gram Sabhas regularly.

The PIL has been filed by Paresh Chandra Das and others.

It is the case of the petitioner that in connection of the above issue the petitioners have submitted a representation to the Chief Minister of Assam on 21.08.2021. However, having elicited no positive response from the authorities, they are compelled to approach the High Court.

Considering the nature of the case, the Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice N Kotiswar Singh and Justice Soumitra Saikia is of the view that the present PIL can be disposed of at this stage without issuing formal notice to the respondents.

The Court is of the view that if the petitioners have already filed the representation, let the same be considered by the concerned authorities and dispose of the same in accordance with law as expeditiously as possible.
