IIT Delhi toilet video: Delhi HC issues notice to DU, IIT Delhi, GGSIU; directs Delhi Police to file action taken report within 2 weeks

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued notice to the Delhi University, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi and the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIU) over a recent incident, in which women students of Bharati College were secretly filmed in the toilet while they were changing costumes during the Rendezvous collegiate festival organised by IIT Delhi.

Taking suo motu cognisance of the incident, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Narula further directed the Delhi Police to file a status report detailing the action taken against the accused within two weeks.

The High Court further directed the three varsities to submit a report indicating their existing policy qua security measures during college festivals held at their premises.

The High Court directed the Investigating Officer (IO) of the case to exercise utmost discretion during investigation and ensure anonymity of the women involved. 

The IO was further directed to ensure that prompt steps were taken to prevent dissemination of photographs clicked and videos made by the accused. 

It further directed the concerned Deputy Commissioner of Police as well as the IO to ensure that no such media was circulated on any of the social media platforms. 

The Bench further directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police as well as the IO to undertake immediate steps for taking down such media, in accordance with law, if the media was circulated on social media.
