Justice Deepak Gupta’s Last Day In office On May 6 Will Be First Virtual Farewell in SC

The Supreme Court will conduct Farewell Ceremony of Justice Deepak Gupta via Video Conferencing on May 6.

The Farewell function is scheduled to begin from 4.30 PM which will be presided by the Chief Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde as intimated by the Executive Committee of the Supreme Court Bar Association.

The Farewell function of Juctice CK Abdul Rehim of Kerala High Court was also conducted via Video conferencing last week.

Justice Gupta was Born on  May 7, 1955 in Nurpur, KangraDistrict (Himachal Pradesh) in a family of lawyers. His father, late Shri M.R. Gupta was a leading Advocate of Shimla. Justice Gupta obtained his law degree from Delhi University in 1978. He practised in the High Court of Himachal Pradesh and was appointed Judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court on 4th October, 2004.  

Justice Gupta remained Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh twice, heading the Green Bench of the High Court for three years. Further he remained Executive Chairman of the H.P. State Legal Services Authority and the President of the H.P. Judicial Academy, Shimla for more than three years. He also headed the Committee on Computerization of the Courts in Himachal Pradesh.

He took oath as the first Chief Justice of High Court of Tripura on March 23, 2013. He was transferred and took oath as the Chief Justice of High Court of Chattisgarh on May 16, 2016.

Justice Deepak Gupta was elevated as Judge, Supreme Court of India on February 17, 2017 and his tenure will come to an end on May 6, 2020.
