A Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Thursday, seeking the formation of an inquiry committee under the chairmanship of a retired High Court judge or the CBI to probe the Sanjeev Maheshwari alias Jeeva murder case that took place in the Lucknow district court premises on June 07.

It has been stated in the petition that even considering the safety of advocates and litigants, it is necessary to intervene by the High Court as violent incidents have increased in court premises across the country in recent days. The murder of Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf in police custody has also been cited in the petition. Along with this, the murder of Darvesh Singh Yadav, former president of the UP Bar Council, in the Agra court premises has also been mentioned.

It has been said in the petition that after the Darvesh murder case, the High Court constituted a seven-judge bench and ordered to ensure the security of the court premises, yet such incidents are a direct example that there has been no improvement in the security of the court premises.Raising the issue of formation of a three-member SIT by the order of the Chief Minister, it has been said in the petition that in view of such incidents, the formation of SIT is not sufficient.

It has been prayed that the High Court should intervene in this matter for the safety of the advocates and the litigants.
