Punjab and Haryana High Court dismisses plea seeking safety for prisoners, action against corruption in Yamunanagar district jail

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has disposed of a PIL seeking direction to the respondent(s) to protect the life and liberty of prisoners, besides taking action against the menace of corruption, nepotism and casteism prevailing inside the District Prison, Yamunanagar.

Pursuant to the notice issued by the High Court, the respondents have filed a reply.

Along with the reply, the respondents have also filed two detailed inquiry reports, which said that proper and thorough inquiry has been conducted and it has been found that the allegations made in the petition were incorrect.  

In view of the aforesaid inquiry reports and the exercise undertaken by the authorities of the State on issuance of notice issued by the High Court, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Ravi Shanker Jha and Justice Arun Palli held that nothing further was required to be done in the present case. 

In the circumstances, taking the inquiry reports on record, the Bench disposed of the petition filed by one Vakeel Raj.
