Punjab High Court disposes PIL seeking control over records of Bar Association of Kurukshetra

The Punjab High Court disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed seeking direction to the respondents to take control over the records of Bar Association of Kurukshetra (respondent No.4) being unauthorized / unregistered body and the same be terminated being illegal.

It is submitted by the counsel for the petitioner that the petitioner had made an application dated 18.10.2023 under the Right to Information Act before the office of Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana seeking information regarding registration of Bar Association of Kurukshetra (respondent No.4).

Pursuant thereto respondent filed reply and sent a letter dated 16.11.2023 along with provisional certificate dated 15.12.2017 which was issued to the Bar Association, Kurukshetra. As per said certificate, the Bar Association, Kurukshetra was registered provisionally.

The counsel for the petitioner submits that after 2017 the Bar Association, Kurukshetra has not been registered and it is provisionally registered till date. After two months the provisional certificate expired and the petitioner has made a detailed representation dated 11.12.2023 to declare the election conducted on 15.12.2023 on the basis of provisional certificate to be null and void.

Without expressing any opinion on the merits of the case, the Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice Ritu Bahri and Justice Nidhi Gupta disposed of the Petition with a direction to respondent to look into the representation of the petitioner dated 11.12.2023 and pass a speaking order thereon expeditiously.
