Supreme Court directs all High Courts to ensure basic essentials such as FIR number, police station recorded in bail orders

The Supreme Court has directed all High Courts of the country to ensure that basic essentials such as FIR number and concerned Police Station were recorded in bail orders.

The Bench of Justice S. Ravindra Bhat and Justice Dipankar Datta, while noting that there was no uniform format of bail orders across the High Courts, observed that in many instances, the orders did not mention the proceedings pending before the trial court or the nature of offences in the case.

It further said that in case of bail or anticipatory bail matters, the High Courts should endeavour to ensure that all basic essentials such as the FIR number, date, the concerned police station and the offences allegedly committed were duly recorded or reflected in the format of the order.

It further directed that this order should be circulated to all the High Courts through their Registrars.
