Former Delhi Police Chief Neeraj Kumar moves SC against Delhi HC order to register FIRs against him

Former Delhi police commissioner Neeraj Kumar has moved the Supreme Court against a Delhi High Court order of last week which directed the police to register two FIRs against him on charges of fabrication of evidence during the course of an investigation 20 years ago.  On March 20, a Delhi High Court bench headed by Chief Justice Rajendra Menon upheld a 2006 order of a single-judge bench of the Delhi High Court which had ordered criminal charges to be filed against Kumar and former assistant commissioner of police Vinod Kumar Pandey. The High Court also directed that the investigation be concluded within a period of two months.

The charge against Kumar is that he, along with Pandey, had fabricated documents and coerced an accountant to sign them during the course of an investigation against former deputy director of enforcement Ashok Aggarwal in the late 1990s. At that time, Kumar was joint director at the CBI. The duo are also accused of summoning Ashok Aggarwal’s younger brother, Vijay Aggarwal, without prior notice and keeping him confined in the bureau in violation of a trial court order.
