Patanjali Ayurveda: Delhi High Court seeks clarity on plea filed in Supreme Court by IMA

The Delhi High Court has asked for clarity on the plea that has been filed before the Supreme court by the  Indian Medical Association (IMA) alleging a smear campaign against allopathy by Baba Ramdev.It also wants to know in detail about the defamation suit filed by doctor against the Ayurvedacharya.

Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani  said that the propriety demands that the bench dealing with the matter should have idea about the proceedings before the apex court goes ahead with the suit.
Patanjali Ayurveda has been directed by the Court, to place a copy of IMA’s petition before the High Court.
The case has been listed Justice Bhambhani for further consideration on Tuesday.

The judge has added that he will see if the issues raised in IMA’s petition and the defamation suit are same.

The Court clearly mentioned that if the matter placed before both the courts are same by the Patanjali Ayurveda, then, the court will file an application before the apex court and seek clarity on whether the High Court can proceed with the matter.


The case  High Court is dealing with is that of the suit by doctors alleging public nuisance and misrepresentation by Ramdev for making statements against allopathic medicine and doctors while promoting his own tablet Coronil.
IMA filed a PIL last before the Apex Court week, a public interest litigation (PIL) petition alleged a smear campaign against the COVID-19 vaccination drive and modern medicine.


In the hearing the outgoing Chief Justice of India NV Ramana had questioned Baba Ramdev on his attempt to discredit allopathy and its practicing doctors during the COVID-19 pandemic.


“Why is Baba Ramdev accusing doctors allopathy etc? He popularised yoga. Good. But he has no rights to criticize other systems. What is the guarantee that what he follows will cure everything?.

The bench questioned as to why is Baba Ramdev abusing the system like this?
