Supreme Court Collegium recommends appointment of judicial officer as judges of Orissa High Court

The Collegium recommended names of a Supreme Court lawyer along with a judicial officer for appointment as judges of the Orissa High Court.

The name of the two people who have been recommended is advocate Sibo Sankar Mishra and Judicial Officer Ananda Chandra Behera.

The Supreme Court website mentioned how the Collegium noted that government gave good inputs on personal and professional side for both the candidates.

Talking about advocate Mishra, the resolution noted that he has 30 years of experience at the Bar as he is an advocate-on-record in Supreme Court for the Odisha government.

The resolution states that Advocate Mishra has a sizeable practice at the Bar which is reflected in his average professional income. Having regard to the above, the Collegium is of the considered view that Shri Sibo Sankar Mishra is suitable for being appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Orissa.

The resolution stated that for judicial officer Behera, the elevation would be superseeding some senior judicial officers, but as the High Court Collegium did not forward the names of the superseded candidates, this can be done.

As on August 1, the Orissa High Court is functioning with 21 judges as against its sanctioned strength of 33 judges.
