Supreme Court issues contempt notice against Advocate ML Sharma, AoR Deepak Goel for wrong attribution of observations made by Chief Justice of MP HC

The Supreme Court issued contempt notice against Advocate Manohar Lal Sharma and Advocate-on-Record (AoR) Deepak Goel on Friday for allegedly quoting observations made by Madhya Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Ravi Malimath during the hearing of a case.

The Bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Abhay S Oka passed the order, observing that the Advocate was ‘harming the litigant’ by making such averments.

Realising his mistake, Sharma resorted to immediate apology. Terming it a legal error, the Advocate said that he had practiced for 35 years before the courts, including the special courts.

However, the top court of the country refused to accept it and issued notice against the two.

The Apex Court further took exception to the AoR for signing off the plea and said even if the top court of the country did not agree with the order, the lawyer and the AoR were not supposed to do something of this sort.
