Delhi HC dismisses plea seeking court-monitored probe into recent Hauz Qazi temple attack

The Delhi High Court on Friday dismissed a plea seeking court-monitored investigation through Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the recent attack where a temple was defaced in Hauz Qazi area.

Dismissing the plea, a bench headed by Chief Justice D N Patel said: “Criminal law already in motion, no reason to constitute SIT. Nothing can be done overnight, absolutely premature PIL. Some breathing time ought to be given to the authorities.”

A temple in Hauz Qazi area was vandalized following a scuffle between the two communities over parking of a scooty. Minor clashes also broke out after the temple was desecrated.

The members of the two communities met on Tuesday to restore peace in the affected area and assured that they will rein-in clashes.

The Home ministry had taken cognizance of the incident and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had even summoned Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik for a briefing on the incident.

Speaking to the media persons after a meeting with Shah, the Patnaik had said: “It was a general briefing. Four people have already been arrested. Legal action will be taken against more people involved in the incident. Situation is normal now and our teams are working on the case.”
