Why medical practitioners’ vacancies have not been filled up in Tihar? SC asks Centre

The Delhi High Court has directed Centre to file a response relating to the filling up of medical practitioners vacancies in the Tihar jail after it found out that it didn’t took note of the amicus’ suggestions on it.

The bench comprising of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani listed the matter for next hearing to July 11.

The court was hearing a PIL instituted by it to examine the medical facilities available for prisoners in the Tihar jail. Additionally, the court is also looking into the medical facilities available at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital pertaining to undertrials and convicts lodged in Tihar Jail.

The court took note of the issue after it was informed that high-profile prisoners in Tihar were being frequently allowed medical visits outside the jail.
