SC to hear grievances on CLAT discrepancies tomorrow

A Supreme Court vacation bench will hear tomorrow (May 24) in details the confusion created by technical glitches and alleged discrepancies in CLAT, the country’s largest test of admission in law studies. The court has asked the disgruntled students to move their complaints.

On May 13, this online examination conducted across the country showed a lot of technical glitches. In many cases the question paper could not be seen on the screen, while in other instances different examinees were allotted different times for same questions.

The petition filed in the Supreme Court on May 13 has been cancelled. This has to be reorganised. The court observed that of the 54,464 examinees, only 251 had filed petitions in the High Court and the Supreme Court. “We have to see if there can be any arrangement for resolving their complaints.” The court has said.

In the petition filed in the Supreme Court, it has been reported that petitions have been filed on this issue in six High Courts of the country. Therefore, it is important that the Supreme Court hear all petitions together. The Supreme Court said that the Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Calcutta and Punjab-Haryana High Courts should not issue any order at this time.

The petition filed in the Supreme Court has also sought a ban on CLAT results coming to the end of this month. However, the court will take a decision only after looking at the suggestions on the system to address the students’ grievances.
