Congress candidate Alpesh Thakor is leading from the​​ Radhanpur constituency of Gujarat. Thakor, who had emerged as a prominent OBC leader of the state, had joined the Congress during the Gujarat election campaign after several meetings with the party leadership and Rahul Gandhi. He had hit headlines days before polling on his seat for infamously alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi consumes five imporated mushrooms priced at Rs 80000 each on a daily basis to become fair complexioned! The Thakor OBC community is a major electoral chunk in Gujarat and the Congress has been hoping that Alpesh Thakor’s stature would help the party make huge electoral gains in the state.
