Allahabad HC gets its Law Museum and Archives wing to preserve historical documents and artefacts

The Allahabad High Court inaugurated a Law Museum and Archives Wing to preserve historical documents and artefacts relating to the Indian judicial system.

High Court Chief Justice Justice Govind Mathur said, “The Allahabad High Court museum is such a rich museum that we can have inspiration for our working. We can learn a lot from this museum.”

The event on Saturday last was attended virtually by Supreme Court judges Justices Ashok Bhushan, Vineet Saran and Krishna Murari. An escalator facility was also inaugurated at the High Court the same day.

The history of any society or organisation, including the judiciary, is relevant and gives inspiration to society and its members of imitating the good deeds and achievements made in the past, Justice Bhushan said.

The Museum consists of an Exhibition gallery, containing historical documents and artifacts relating to the Indian judicial system and an audio-visual Room, to educate the visitors about the history of the judicial system through short videos.

Justice Mithal said during the virtual ceremony, “Law museum is necessary to make aware the new comers in the judicial prof about history of law courts and history of courts.”

Justices Manoj Kumar Gupta and Justice Siddhartha Verma of the Allahabad High Court were also members of the Committee to supervise the construction of the Law Museum.

Registrar General of the Allahabad High Court, Ajai Kumar Srivasatava-I; Director of Construction & Designs Committee, Gulab Chandra Dubey and UPPWD, Prayagraj, Ashok Kumar Dwivedi were thanked for their efforts and cooperation. Chief Justice Mathur expressed his request that the new Museum should be declared as the “National Museum of Judiciary”. Responding to this, Justice Bhushan said that he will submit a proposal in this regard with the Chief Justice of India.

The ceremony was also graced by the virtual presence of Justices Vineet Saran and Krishna Murari, Judges of the Supreme Court; Justice Vikram Nath, Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court; and Judges of the Allahabad High Court viz., Justices Ritu Raj Awasthi, Vivek Kumar, Rajnish Kumar, Virendra Kumar Srivastava, Kumar Pachori, Mahesh Chandra Tripathi, Sunita Agarwal, etc.
