Asharam’s Temporary Bail application Denied by Gujarat HC

The Gujarat High Court on Monday rejected the bail application filed by Asharam in view of his vulnerability to get infected with pandemic disease COVID-19.

Self-proclaimed God, Asharam in his temporary bail application sought bail on the medical grounds, claiming himself as highly vulnerable to COVID-19, as he has attained the age of about 84 years and is suffering from various diseases.

However, Public Prosecutor Mr. Amin submitted before the court that earlier bail applications of Asharam have not been granted by the Gujarat HC as well as the Apex Court considering the seriousness of the alleged offences, and hence, present application shall also be rejected.

The single judge bench of Justice Bela M. Trivedi while dismissing the temporary bail application observed that the accused is involved in very serious offences under section 376 (2) (c), 377, 354, 357, 342, 346, 56(2) and 120(B) of IPC and the case does not fall under the category mentioned in the guidelines issued by the High Powered Committee.
