The matter of malfunctioning EVMs, along with the demand for VVPATs is being heard by the Supreme Court bench of Justices J Chelameswar and S Abdul Nazeer.
There are two cases: Bahujan Samaj Party vs Union of India and Ataur Rehman vs Election Commission of India.
On May 8, senior advocate P Chidambaram, arguing for the petitioner submitted that service in both the cases are complete. “The Election Commission is here. Newspaper reports say that they have sanctioned Rs 3,000 crore. Let the Election Commission file a counter affidavit.”
The matter was adjourned for filing counter from respondents. It will be listed immediately after the summer vacation.
