Supreme Court to celebrate first-ever International Women Judges Day on March 10

The Supreme Court is hosting a special programme to commemorate the first-ever ‘International Day of Women Judges’ on March 10.

A statement issued by the Registry of Supreme Court said here in a statement that following the directions of Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana, the online programme will commence at 5 pm.

CJI Ramana, along with other Supreme Court Judges, including Justice Indira Banerjee, Justice Hima Kohli, Justice B.V. Nagarathna and Justice Bela M. Trivedi, will take part in the event from the
premises of Supreme Court.

On April 28, 2021, the United Nations General Assembly had resolved to proclaim March 10 of each year as the International Day of Women Judges and called upon the Member States
to observe the same, “in order to promote the full and equal participation of women at all levels of the judiciary”.

The resolution moved to this effect by Qatar in the UN General Assembly was sponsored by India, among others.

All the women Judges of the Constitutional Courts and all the women Judicial Officers from across the country are invited to join the programme, added the statement.
