Plea in Kerala HC seeks fixed rates for COVID-19 treatment in hospitals

It alleged that private medical centers and testing centers in the state were charging high prices for diagnostic tests and treatment of COVID-19 patients.

ILNS: A petition was filed in the Kerala High Court on Tuesday, seeking fixed rates of COVID-19 treatment by Private Hospitals, Labs and Diagnostic Centers.

Filed by Advocate Sabu Thomas through Advocates CN Sreekumar, Manju Paul and Sureshkumar C, the plea was mentioned before a Vacation Bench of Justices Ashok Menon and Murali Purshothaman, this morning.

It alleged that private medical centers and testing centers in the state were charging high prices for diagnostic tests and treatment of COVID-19 patients.

The petition claimed that the state government was bound to take appropriate action or remedial measures to control and regularise the high charges imposed by Private Hospitals for the treatment of COVID-19.

“The state government should assure that every citizen should be provided with facility to get adequate treatment through Government Health Service or else, assure the treatment through other private facilities, with availability of beds, ICU’s and Oxygen-supported beds in Government Hospitals,” the petitioner prayed.
