Record children’s statements through video conferencing, Delhi High Court tells authorities

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today directed the CWC and other authorities to record statements of children through video conferencing, because children are very vulnerable to COVID-19 and might get infected during the movement or in the court premises.

A divisional bench of Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan, while hearing a petition, noted that the all necessary infrastructure must be provided at the child’s home and at the court. Authorities should also maintain such infrastructure for recording statements through video conferencing.

The petition was filed by Bachpan Bachao Andolan, an NGO working for the welfare of children, seeking directions from the court to restrict the movement of children to the court for the recording of statements.

The counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted: “We have made two suggestions. They are: 1. Statements may be recorded through video conferencing and 2. MM may go to the children for recording the statement if it is necessary.

Whereas the counsel appearing for the respondent accepted the suggestions and said that there is no difficulty, everybody will abide.
