SC lawyer complains to Delhi Police chief against Sikhs For Justice chief, Twitter CEO, Facebook CEO

A complaint has been filed against US-based Sikhs for Justice chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, Twitter CEO and Facebook CEO under the Prevention of Insults to National Pride Act and different sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Supreme Court lawyer Vineet Jindal has filed a complaint with Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana that Pannu’s statement and act in a video showing burning of the Indian flag clearly challenged India’s sovereignty.

As per the complaint, the statements and acts of Pannu clearly are meant to challenge the sovereignty and unity of India and any attempt to wage war amongst different communities and states.

The letter reads:

“Pannu has recently made an announcement through video widely circulated via Facebook and Twitter, offering $1 million reward to block Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tricolour on the Republic Day celebration.”

The letter alleges that the act was against the regulations made by the Government of India to prevent such videos from being broadcast by Twitter and Facebook. It was the responsibility of these companies to stop this but it was not done by them, the letter reads.

Jindal demanded action to be taken against Pannu, along with the CEOs of Twitter and Facebook under IPC Sections 121, 153, 153A, 295, 298, 504, 505 including Prevention of Insults to National Pride.

The letter reads:

“SJF chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannu is a declared terrorist by the Government of India, so his videos and statements circulated via Facebook and Twitter should have been immediately removed owing to their instigating, provoking and threatening nature.”

As per the letter:

“A video has been released by the Sikhs For Justice on January 3 on the internet inciting farmers to block Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cavalcade in Punjab, where he was scheduled to address a political rally. For this, the terrorist organization had also announced a $100,000 reward.”
