The Ram Mandir issue has remained one of the most contentious in recent times, involving the sentiments of two major religions of the country, as well as the possible establishment or debunking of historical facts or pure myths.

The appeal is about building a Ram Mandir.

The Supreme Court took up the issue on March 21, because of an urgent appeal by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, but extricated itself from initial wrangles by suggesting that the two parties sit and settle the issue, bringing the issue to court only if it was essential, at a later stage.

The Chief Justice of India (CJI) J S Khehar said: “This issue will take time. We will hear this matter once three more judges are appointed or after summer vacation.

Or is there any possibility to sit across the table and mediate the issue?”

Subramanian Swamy said: “Some judicial intervention is required.”

The CJI replied: “Whoever you want we will ask him to mediate. If you want me I will come. If you want my sitting brother judges, you take them, but mediate. These kinds of issues should be mediated rather than we passing an order.”

The CJI asked him to mention this on March 31.
