The Supreme Court on Saturday organised the first-ever Hackathon under the aegis of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, to identify innovative ideas and explore practical propositions for refining and bringing in efficiency to the existing processes from filing to listing of judicial matters.
Organised under the supervision and guidance of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, the event saw participation of members of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Supreme Court Advocates-On-Record Association (SCAORA), besides officers of the Registry and other stakeholders.
Suggestions and innovative ideas were invited online from the stakeholders and duty holders during the event, which was
part of the process to enhance the organisational practices and usher in reforms in the Registry.
The Screening-cum-Selection Committee evaluated the suggestions given by the applicants, which touched upon refining the current operational framework relating to filing, listing and leveraging technology at various levels of processing judicial files in the Apex Court, on various parameters.
It selected 18 candidates to give presentation demonstrating their vision as to how their proposition may be effectively implemented to improve the processes from filing to listing.
Justice Kaul said on the occasion that the inputs received have provided substantive insights with regard to reforms in the processes and use of technology for better output. He highlighted the peculiar features of filing and listing in the Supreme Court, emphasising the importance of having an effective system in place.
The participants gave innovative ideas during their presentations and discussed various aspects relating to E-filing, use of Artificial Intelligence, simplifying categorisation of cases, use of QR Codes for better processing of files, scrutiny processes and effective mentioning through the use of technology.
Justice Kaul later felicitated the winners and other participants.
Secretary General Sanjeev S. Kalgaonkar said the Hackathon provided a much-needed platform to develop new ideas and suggest workable solutions for transformation. Registrar Devender Pal Walia delivered the vote of thanks.
