Supreme Court releases test version of e-filing portal for crowd testing

The e-committee of the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, has released a test version of its new electronic filing (e-filing) portal for crowd testing.

In recent years, the e-committee of the Apex Court has pushed for e-filing in courts and tribunals across the country.

The committee had directed all High Courts in October 2021 to ensure that all cases filed by the government were through e-filing mode.

In September last year, CJI Chandrachud had emphasised on the importance of digitisation of court records going hand-in-hand with the endeavours sought to be achieved by e-filing.

The CJI was referring to the hard copies needed by advocates to be digitised by the court staff later, leading to an increased carbon footprint.

In March 2023, a Bench led by CJI Chandrachud had directed the Debts Recovery Tribunals and the Debts Recovery Appellate Tribunals to set up comprehensive E-Sewa Kendras to facilitate e-filing.
