Supreme Court to hear cases on providing OBC, SC/ST quota in panchayat elections in Maharashtra, MP on Monday

The Supreme Court will on Monday hear the matters related to the Madhya Pradesh Panchayat elections. The matter is pertaining to reservations not being provided to OBC/SC/ST in the upcoming civic elections.

The bench of Justice A.M.Khanwilkar said that on December 13, Monday, the petition filed regarding the ordinance on providing reservation for OBCs in the Maharashtra civic elections will also be heard.  All the other matters related to reservations in elections will also be taken up.

The matter of OBC reservation for Maharashtra civic elections is pending in the Supreme Court which is to be heard on Monday. The Supreme Court said that all these cases are also related to reservation in civic elections. Therefore, all of them will be given guidelines after hearing with them.

Panchayat elections are to be held in Madhya Pradesh where notification has been issued for panchayat elections. There is a protest against not giving reservation for SC/ST in these civic elections on the basis of rotation, due to which the matter has now reached the Supreme Court for hearing.
