CJI Ramana was referring to the ongoing spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 and the sudden surge in the number of Covid-19 cases which has resulted in the Supreme Court reverting to virtual hearings.

Over 100 practicing lawyers and members of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) have filed an intervention application seeking complete physical hearing. The IA has been filed in the pending petition of All India Association of Jurists (AIAJ) writ petition.

The bench while listing the matter for further hearing on August 3 has further directed the Secretary to collect information from all the states and submit a report.

While the hearing was going on Justice Chandrachud made the remark that, “You keep saying that situation is dynamic, but you have to keep your ears on the ground.
