Chief Justice of India S.A. Bobde has said that the process to resume physical hearings has begun and will, for the time-being, be reintroduced via hybrid hearings.

New Delhi (ILNS): Snehasish Mukherjee, former secretary of the Supreme Court Advocates-On-Record Association (SCAORA), has joined India’s oldest law firm Fox Mandal as a partner.

Justice Arun Mishra, on his last day as a Supreme Court judge, sat with Chief Justice S.A. Bobde today in Court 1. This is a tradition. Attorney General K.K. Venugopal and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said Justice Mishra will be missed dearly.

In the wake of Covid-19, all courts have remained shut for nearly five months and have been holding hearings through video conferencing. Although lockdown restrictions were eased from June onwards, courts have continued to hold only virtual hearings.

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA) has informed that a seven-judge committee of the Supreme Court is seriously considering the resumption of physical functioning for at least 2-3 benches of the court.

The Supreme Court today (July 17) dismissed a plea filed by Supreme Court Bar Clerks Association seeking a monthly payment of Rs 15,000 to its members during closure of courts amid the COVID 19 lockdown.
