Video: Special Marriage Act meant for marriage between man and woman: Centre

The Central government reiterated in the Supreme Court that legalisation of same-sex marriages should be left to Parliament to decide on. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted that the Special Marriage Act has provision for marriage between men and women only. Petitioner’s advocate Arundhati Katju said relatives of LGBT couples also want to see their children married.

The Supreme Court has ordered High Courts to ensure digitisation of records of district courts. It issued detailed guidelines as well.

In the plea filed by women wrestlers alleging sexual harassment, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Delhi Police, said preliminary investigation is necessary before filing an FIR. If the Supreme Court gives instructions, then the FIR will be registered, he said.

The Supreme Court has reserved verdict on a petition challenging DMK leader Kanimozhi’s election from Thoothukudi Lok Sabha seat.
