Central government notifies appointment of three new judges for Uttarakhand High Court

The appointment of two lawyers and one judicial officer as judges of the Uttarakhand High Court has been notified Central government.

A tweet was moved by the Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju. The three persons cleared for appointment:

– Rakesh Thapliyal;

– Pankaj Purohit; and

– Vivek Bharti Sharma (judicial officer)

The three names, along with that of advocate Subhash Upadhyay, had been recommended by

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended for elevation of these three names, during the last collegium meet.

In September 2022, the Chief Justice of the High Court of Uttarakhand had forwarded a proposal in this regard in consultation with his two senior-most colleagues.

The Chief Minister and the Governor of the State of Uttarakhand, and the Union Department of Justice had subsequently concurred with the recommendations.

As on April 1, the Uttarakahand High Court which has a sanctioned strength of 11 judges is functioning with 5 judges, a vacancy position of 6.
