COVID test not needed for pregnant women, Delhi HC told

The Delhi Government submitted its report on Wednesday to Delhi High Court in a plea seeking priority testing, expeditious processing, and declaration of results of pregnant women for COVID-19.

The divisional bench presided by Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan while hearing the matter through video conferencing noted that there seems no reason to further monitor the present petition.

The Plea has been filed by one Mr. Nikhil Singhavi, seeking to expedite the testing of pregnant women.

The report submitted by the Delhi Government stated that “Government is trying its level best to make available and do Covid-19 testing across all sections of the population with possible and justified prioritization.

The report further stated that “the guidelines issued by ICMR are for providing obstetric care for pregnant patients with confirmed novel Coronavirus disease (COVID 19) or a pregnant person under investigation (OUI), i.e who presents with symptoms.”

As all the pregnant women are not presumed to be COVID-19 positive, all the pregnant woman doesn’t need to undergo COVID-19 test, the report stated.

The Court while disposing of the petition while expressing satisfaction towards the actions of the Delhi Government in dealing with the issue in the petition.
